Our population uses tons and tons of plastic every year as one of our main resources. As this plastic decomposes, not only does it take almost 5,000 years to deteriorate, but it will also give off methane gas. Methane gas increases the rate of climate change because methane makes up 20 percent of green house gases in our environment, according to “A New Link Between Plastic and Climate Change”. Greenhouse gases weaken and break down our ozone layer which lets the sun have more radiation on us. Since more sun is being let into the ecosystem, it is heating up the planet. When it gets warmer the ice glaciers and snow will melt. Habitats are being taken away by animals like polar bears as an affect of the heat. The melting ice glaciers are also creating a huge increase in amounts of water. If this problem continues then we will be flooded and will have to move up to the mountains.
